This not only enhances the efficiency of recycling and garment creation, but also contributes to a more sustainable and environmentally friendly process. It's a commitment to elegance and responsibility.

  • Conducting In-depth Supplier Research

At SexyGulls, we prioritize well-informed decisions for swimwear materials and production. We meticulously examine suppliers' sustainability reports and available data. Aquafil supplies us with Econyl as raw material for our swimwear. Carvico, a renowned Italian company, handles fabric production and dyeing. Finally, our reputable manufacturer in Braga, Portugal ensures the perfect cut, make, and trim for our swimwear.

  • Multi-Functional Swimwear

Our pursuit of exceptional swimwear and apparel designs has led us to prioritize versatility. Our current swimwear selection exemplifies this philosophy, as each piece can be seamlessly incorporated into a variety of occasions and outfit combinations. At SexyGulls, our commitment to sustainability is central to our packaging practices. We consciously choose decomposable mailer boxes to minimize our environmental impact. Our packages are carefully prepared using premium reusable gift boxes and tissue made from recycled paper materials. Additionally, all printing is done with eco-friendly inks, demonstrating our dedication to the planet. Each package is also adorned with a high-quality ribbon that can be reused, along with a recycled kraft paper card that enhances the unboxing experience.

  • Promote the minimization of microplastics

To minimize microplastic shedding and increase the longevity of your swimwear, we suggest hand washing it instead of utilizing a machine wash. Our swimwear is composed of multifilament recycled polyamide with a compact woven structure and highly twisted yarns, resulting in fewer microfibres being released.

  • Upcycling used swimwear for a sustainable future

SexyGulls has a vision to collaborate with organizations in order to collect and upcycle used swimwear. By implementing this plan, we aim to make a positive impact on the environment and promote sustainability.

  • Environmental Implications of Waste

The fashion industry generates a massive 92 million tons of textile waste annually. Astonishingly, about 95% of these textiles can actually be repurposed and recycled. Regrettably, the fast fashion model discourages such eco-friendly initiatives. Alarming figures from 2018 reveal that approximately 17 million tonnes of textile waste were disposed of in landfills, with decomposition taking up to 200 years. SexyGulls was founded with a clear mission to address this ecological challenge and reduce waste.

  • Fashion Industry's Impact on Water

The Fashion Industry is a significant consumer and polluter of freshwater. Water is utilized throughout the production process for every garment. The dyeing and treatment of fabrics contribute to untreated wastewater being discharged into our water systems, thereby contaminating them with toxins and heavy metals. At SexyGulls, we diligently monitor our supply chain to minimize water usage and wastewater discharge.

  • The Impact of Fashion on Carbon Emissions

The fashion industry contributes to 10% of global carbon emissions. Upstream activities, such as materials production, preparation, and processing, account for around 70% of the industry's emissions. The remaining 30% are associated with downstream retail operations, the use-phase, and end-of-use activities. At SexyGulls, we not only monitor emissions from our supply chain but also strive to reduce them during operation by partnering with shipping companies that offer carbon neutral delivery.

  • The Presence of Hazardous Chemicals in Fashion Items

Some studies indicate a potential risk of chemical exposure in our homes when purchasing from fast fashion brands. A recent investigation found that 20% of clothing and accessories samples contained alarming levels of chemicals such as lead, PFAS, and phthalates. At SexyGulls, we prioritize the use of certified materials in our swimwear to ensure the absence of harmful chemicals.

  • Microplastic's Impact on Ocean Ecosystems

When released into the air and wastewater systems, microplastics, which can be thinner than a human hair and often invisible to the naked eye, find their way into our rivers and oceans. Sea creatures such as plankton, as well as larger fish and whales, consume these microplastics along with their regular meals. In fact, an alarming quarter of the seafood we consume contains microplastics. A significant amount of microfibers are shed by synthetic fabrics, especially during machine washes with detergent.

They also implement rainwater harvesting methods. Our raw material supplier achieved a commendable 23% reduction in water consumption in 2022 and significantly decreased total water discharges by 46% since 2018.

  • Reduce Carbon Footprint Throughout Manufacturing Process

The utilization of thermal power by fabric supplier for heating purposes, along with the implementation of a green belt on their premises, has resulted in an impressive 55% reduction in thermal consumption per ton of finished products since 2002. Raw material producer, on the other hand, has achieved a remarkable 90% decrease in CO2 emissions compared to other nylon producers and has successfully lowered greenhouse gas emissions by around 1200 tonnes of CO2 eq. annually.

  • Exclusion of Hazardous Compounds in Manufacturing

Certified by OEKO-TEX Standard 100 and GRS, the SexyGulls swimwear fabrics produced by Carvico are free of hazardous chemical. The raw material from Aquafil is also certified with ECO Passport for three of Aquafil SLO's products, and it meets the standards set by the Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals (ZDHC) initiative. Furthermore, Aquafil SpA's products are compliant with the EU REACH Regime and have been certified by OEKO-TEX.

  • Maximize Efficiency in Energy Resource Management

The production of SexyGulls swimwear fabrics takes place in an environmentally conscious setting. Renovations include the replacement of all mercury bulbs with last generation lamps, the introduction of new inverters and LED lamps, the installation of high efficiency engines, and the upgrade of all knitting equipment and machinery. Moreover, the raw material used is produced using 100% electricity obtained from renewable sources.

  • Minimising Release of Microplastics

At present, we lack information regarding the efforts of our suppliers in addressing the microplastics issue. Nevertheless, at SexyGulls, we actively promote and educate our customers on effective measures to mitigate the impact of microplastics.

  • Promote the betterment of working and living conditions for individuals employed in garment factories and residing in areas influenced by textile and wastewater dumps.

  • To maximize cost efficiency, around 90% of the world's clothing is made in low and middle-income countries, taking advantage of their inexpensive workforce.

  • Workshops often neglect safety standards, which can have serious consequences for the health of workers. For example, lung diseases can be caused by inhaling cotton dust and synthetic air particulates. Repetitive motions without sufficient breaks can also result in overuse injuries. Unfortunately, there have been cases where these hazardous conditions have led to fatalities.
